Jazz in CumbriaYour comprehensive guide to jazz in Cumbria The Lake District is one of the country's tourist hotspots, especially for fell walkers, with its rugged peaks, still waters and remote valleys. The area has always attracted creative artists and thinkers, from Ruskin and Wordsworth to Beatrix Potter. This sparsely populated county has an active jazz scene, from the annual jazz festival in the market town of Appleby, with a modern jazz programme of top British players, to the intimate weekly sessions at Zeffirelli's Jazz Bar in Ambleside, featuring regional and national artists. Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre hosts regular concerts, and Keswick is the stunning setting for the traditional Jazz By The Lake event each May.
